These two cuties are so near and dear to my heart. Dustin is a very talented photographer (check him out here) who on occason second shoots for me and just in general keeps everyone around him entertained. If you ever need to make a wedding party bust up laughing, just ask Dustin to do his famous "moon walk"! The lovely Corynn is one of the few non-family members I've ever had watch my girl, she has the sweetest heart and my kiddos adore her for it! When my daughter's found out Dustin proposed, they were so excited and talked non-stop about the ring and how Dustin asked. Yikes, the children of a wedding photographer at work! Dustin & Corynn you both are both full of the best kind of qualities people can have, the kind of people others want to be around. I'm so glad I was able to do just that and will miss you both when you move home - but am so excited to watch you on your next adventure!

Happy Thanksgiving! This is one of those holidays that reminds me why I love my job - it's a celebration of who we are and taking a moment to look around and find joy - real joy in the big and small things in our lives. My biggest hope & prayer for you today is that in the calm before the holiday storm you allow yourself to stop and look around because you are greatly loved and appreciated by your family, your friends and me - your photographer. As I enjoy my parents who have traveled far to spend time with my own family I hope you know that I will also be taking time to be thankful for everyone who I've photographed. You've trusted and put your faith in me to record your life, to capture who you are and I'm so thankful and blessed by each one of you! I hope you feel the love!

Enjoy your feast, kick your feet up and leave the mess to clean after your nap. I'm sure there is a football game to catch or a sale at your favorite store that shouldn't be missed! For anyone out there who didn't buy a turkey with a handy dandy popper - your turkey should read 165 degrees on the meat thermometer before it's safe to eat!!

Color Inspiration!

The other week Studio 180 hosted a wonderful workshop to help brides select colors for their weddings and create an inspiration board from those selections. Lisa Murley of Lime Drop Events was there ready to offer guidance and inspiration and Lisa Meyer of Flower Power Decor had created several floral pieces to bring the color ideas to life. Last month I made a trip to Michigan to photograph my darling cousin's wedding and for some icing on the cake, my youngest daughter was the flower girl! This beautiful couple tied the knot on one of the windiest days of the summer! Despite a last minute change in ceremony site these two stayed focused on the big picture and with their family and friends surrounding them and their children standing by their sides said "I do" at the lovely Eagle Vale. You both are such loving people, it was a joy to photograph you and an honor to be involved in your wedding! Maureen & Jake {Seneca Lake} Part 1

I love, love, love hearing my couples' stories of how & where they met and all about the proposal. I'm blown away where life takes us and the amazing circumstances we come to meet one another. For Maureen & Jake their fate brought them together at MIT and an adventure to Iceland gave Jake the perfect opportunity to ask that magical question. Yes, these two are incredibly intelligent, but what struck me the most was their sense of humor and their candid down to earth personalities. Their sensitivity to each other was beyond amazing to watch as the day unfolded -you'll see what I mean from the images. The day started at the charming Magnolia Place on Seneca Lake where these love birds planned to see each other for their "first look". I love when couples choose to see each other before the ceremony, it is such an emotionally charged moment and it makes for some of the sweetest memories and oh-so beautiful images! I know it doesn't seem like much, maybe only 10 or 12 hours from the last time you saw each at the rehearsal dinner but for most of us being the center of attention is quite nerve racking. Having a moment to be still and appreciate the grandeur of the day and an opportunity for your lover to look at you for the first time and whisper how beautiful you look (maybe shed a tear or two) can be one of the sweetest moments of the day. Sometimes even I forget how magical this time can be, thank you both for reminding me!

Multi Tasking E Session

This lovely couple was vacationing in the fabulous Geneva area and decided it was the perfect place to have an engagement session, I of course couldn't agree more! We met at Fox Run Vineyards and it was all magic from there! With a passion for wine & the culinary arts, the vineyard was a perfect backdrop. So much in common we have you two, first our love of food & cooking and Brandon surprised me - we both watch Dual Survivor! Kind of funny really how it came up. I was trying to be cool and wore some oh-so cute wedge sandals and if you know me at all I'm not so good on anything other than flats or sneakers so halfway through I kicked the shoes off and was running around barefoot in the vineyard. Sad, really 'cause I do love heels and how they make me look taller. Then out of the blue Brandon says "have you ever watched Dual Survivor?" I've only seen every episode and almost screamed "Yes!", and if you've never seen the show it's about two very different guys with their own unique survival skills & experience demonstrating how to survive in extreme scenarios blending their two methods. Quite interesting. Where does the barefeet thing come in? Cody (one of the dual survivors) has been walking barefoot for the last 20 years. Yup, no shoes. I had so much fun talking & laughing with you Sara & Brandon! You both were amazing and I am so thrilled you asked me to photograph your love adventure!

Casey & Mike {Part 1}

It's been a while since I've photographed a rehearsal dinner so when Casey asked me, I was delighted! When she mentioned it was aboard the Esparanza Rose on Keuka Lake, I was soooo excited! I've heard so much about Keuka Lake and the drive there was nothing short of beautiful! Casey and Mike had made the long drive from Wisconsin just a couple of days before so this was the first time we were able to meet in person. From our many phone & email conversations a lovely visit with Casey's sister Abby, I've gotten to know quite a bit about these two and was very anxious to officially meet. The atmosphere was laid back and the boat was filled with close family and friends, the perfect recipe for a lovely evening. Thank you both for inviting us to join this adventure, I'll post some images from your wedding in the next day or two!

Light House Adventures with Meg & Joe

The first time I sat down with these two I felt like we had been friends for years. Meg & Joe are not your guard up type of people but instead wear your heart on your sleeves kind of souls. No wonder we got along so well! We chatted about how they met and the grand story of how Joe popped the question when I asked if their was a location they enjoyed as a couple. Turns out they have a wonderful cottage near the Lighthouse at Sodus Point where they feel especially at peace. This naturally became the location of choice for their e-session.

We started the day with a tour of the lighthouse where the fabulous Historian shared lots of cool facts and some wonderful stories about the making of the light itself. A huge unexpected gem in my opinion! It was a laid back afternoon full of laughs, stories, and some magical light. I'm so blessed to be working with you two and can't wait for October!

I hope everyone is lathered with sunscreen and enjoying the afternoon, it's a scorcher out there today! I can almost smell the barbecue now..... I wonder how that became the activity of choice to celebrate this holiday? Maybe because it's pretty much the most all-American thing you can do and it's done with your closest friends and family. Speaking of barbecues, I'm off to one myself in a bit! Many blessings to everyone on this day, I hope you take a moment and smell the roses!

Even though I am a photographer and all - I really do think a photo session is such an amazing way to celebrate being a family. And to that I would love to share a few from a recent shoot of the Ardillo family, Dad is not in these because we were surprising him for Father's Day! Another really great idea...{just sayin!}

Today I'm feeling a bit melancholy. My one and only niece is now living a million miles from me. Even though it could be argued I moved away first - I'm not digging it. I know it couldn't be helped and their reason for moving was the same reason we moved to New York from Michigan. I know things happen for a reason, but some days it's easier to accept than others. The Nash family and my little pumpkin Emma have graced the blog on more than one occasion, maybe you remember them. So to my little munchkin - I miss you cutie pie and I can't wait to give you big hugs when I visit and I hope you have tons of adventures in Cali! {This would be such a wonderful time to post a picture of the two of us, but I'm never in the photos and always behind the camera - shame on me!!}

Last week my friend and studio partner John Larkin among so many super talented area photographers took part in a really fun group model shoot. 4 groups of photographers and 4 groups of models. This was such a fun experience and the models were all such troopers marching around the city in their stilettos - mad props for that one girls! I was able to shoot 9 models that day so in the next few weeks I'll post a few of my favorites from each mini session. I can't wait to take my clients to all the cool spots we found tucked away, our own little city gems!

Meet Jenn & Frank! Last year I photographed Jenn's sister Laurie so I was thrilled to be a part of Jenn's big day! This was the first time I've been to Locust Hill Country Club so it was such an adventure! The grounds were beautiful and everyone was so accommodating which made it a dream to work at! Wow, big news - I'm so excited to be moving into an awesome 2,000 sq ft loft studio! Tall ceilings, loads of space, lots of great window light, a full kitchen for all those fun events and two beautiful meeting spaces! Myself and a group of area photographers will be sharing this grand space (a.k.a Studio 180), though we will be running our own separate businesses there will be several events a year we will host as a group. Can't wait for all that is in the works! It will probably take a bit of time to have it just so and hopefully the announcement of an open house won't be too far off. I'm so excited to take this step and so anxious to share it with all of you. In the next few weeks I'll be posting some fun offers and hopefully a couple of fun events as well on the blog & facebook! I will be working in the studio by appointment only so if you want to stop by, just give me a call and I'll meet you there! Here are a few pictures!

Color Palette Glory!

When it comes to color, I can't lie I've always struggled a bit with what goes with what. Unfortunately this little "problem" spills over from my personal life right on into my business. I can't tell you how many colors my logo has been or how every single marketing piece I've ever designed has never had the same color scheme! Plain and simple, I love colors and it pains me to have to leave one out! Physically pains me! I started thinking maybe I wasn't the only one out there - though I would never judge, that would be silly. But I wanted to pass along a couple of the tools that have helped me overcome and reign in my wild color imagination over the years. Maybe you're planning a birthday party, painting your living room or in the design & planning process of your wedding and can't decide on a color palette..... No matter what the occasion, if this small share helps in any way I'll be thrilled!

The first lovely site is COLOURlovers. They have so many fun ways for you to pick just the right palette for your project. If you have a favorite photograph - you can even use that and it will create a scheme from the colors in the image! How cool is that! What I love about this site is it will show you magazine covers, websites & other patterns incorporating the colors so you can better envision how it will look in an actual design.

The second splendid little site is Color Scheme Designer. This one is for that person who knows the primary color they want use in a project but needs help picking some accents. It gives the technical goodies of why shades of purple go so well with shades of green. Overall this site is a no-nonsense by the book great site.

This next gem is a recent find that draws more from the world of fashion, Fashion Trend Setter. A great site for giving you a sneak peek into what colors are forecasted to be all the rage and flashback to previous years' color trends. A great site if you haven't narrowed down your options and are wide open for suggestions. I haven't worked my way through the whole site but what I've seen so far looks promising!

I know there are a million types of these sites out there so if one of these doesn't float your boat, there is definitely one out there for you! If you have one you love, please share! Good luck with all of your color searching!

In light of this topic, here are a few images of a wonderful way to use red. These were styled by Chantiza Stern and although she has a Chinese New Year's theme here, wouldn't this be a fun & festive color to use for any party!?!

Out from behind the computer!

This month has been packed with lots of great marketing events for me and provided lots of time away from my computer (which I love in the winter). I debated on what to blog about first because I always feel I need to record things in chronological order, but I am throwing caution to the wind...I think I'll start right in the middle. At the end of January I took part in a very fun and eclectic bridal affair with an approach to a wedding show more like a styled event. Where couples were encouraged to linger, relax and mingle with all of the professionals. This is definitely what drew me to this show and to the magazine. I had such a wonderful time meeting all of the lovely couples and talking shop with all the vendors. It really was a very inspiring event and I wish I would've attended one just like it when I was getting married! Here are just a few of the pics from the night of the WellWed Bridal Affair.

love and a castle

Every little girl dreams of marrying her prince at a castle right? For Jenn, this wish came true at the Belhurst Castle in Geneva. There is a wonderful new and old quality to the venue and gorgeous grounds to explore. Jenn and Drew were easily the most laid back couple in the world of laid back couples! Seriously. I love the fall colors and the different looks each location we explored gave us - so many possibilities! You both look amazing and I was so completely honored to photograph you!

So, I feel the need to intro this one. Jenn is standing poised, beautiful - unexpected of what we've told Drew. We ask her to look at the camera with a soft expression trying to bite our own cheeks in fear of giving it away. After a few clicks and several uncontained laughs from Dustin and I she realizes something is amiss.....and the shoot has taken a whole new direction.

Winter Inspiration!

Well I figured since tomorrow I'm scheduled to shoot for the next edition of the fab newsletter by Chantiza, I would share what she cooked up from last months! The table scape was inspired by winter with the beautiful cool blues and reflective shades of silver. Dripping from the tree were beautiful glass ornaments and lots of crystals, everything you need for a winter fairy tale wedding! The very talented Jeff, owner of The Caledonia Village Inn designed & carved the ice candelabras that completed the perfect winter dream. Enjoy the cool eye candy......

A couple of months ago I participated in a local bridal show and while I was looking for show stopping linens to amp up my booth I met the totally stylin' and creative Chantiza Stern who owns the fabulous Table Toppers. I walked out of her shop with amazing linens and a new friendship! Lucky me! I had so much fun shooting Chantiza a while back in action for a spotlight article in the upcoming issue of WellWed. Please make sure and check out the Spring/Summer edition when it comes out to read the article and see yours truly as well! It is a wonderful magazine that will definitely get your creative juices flowing! WellWed is also hosting a very chic bridal show 1.23.10 at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, NY. A Cutie Pie & Her Lovely Parents!

Toronto Newbies!

Since moving to New York everyone has urged us to visit Toronto, telling us what a great city it is. Last month in need of a short holiday we headed out filled with much anticipation, and now that I've been there - I absolutely agree! I'm such a fan of big cities, our whole family is. We love walking the streets feeling the heartbeat so to speak and soaking in our surroundings. You know how it is when you visit a place for the first time, so many wonderful adventures await but its so hard to pick one! In the spirit of our newbyness we tackled some of the must sees like the CN Tower, Eaton Center Mall, "down town", Dundas St. ,and Casa Loma. On the morning we headed home we visited what would end up being my favorite local hot spot, Queen St. West. I'm so glad we did! My oldest daughter and I are major tea fans and found a great shop - David's Tea and tasted their many fantastic offerings and brought a little back home! Here are a couple pics from our travels, taken on my i Phone. Please enjoy and if you ever get the opportunity - go visit Toronto!

Upon arrival in our lovely room at The Grand Hotel we enjoyed this view out of our window, thank you God for blessing us with beautiful weather and the opportunity to step out of our daily routine....

My J is a reader, simply put. It was no surprise she almost instantly found a brochure and snuggled up with all of her furry friends to enjoy some lovely traveling tips....

I refrained from touching up this picture so I could have a good laugh seeing the bags under our eyes from lack of sleep on our rock-like pull out sofa bed. What can I say, we gave up the the comfy bed to the kids and my Mom.....

This is the infamous, Buddy. Well at least that's what my kiddos nicknamed him. They thought he was adorable - I thought he was kind of creepy! Shooo littl guy, please don't eat my children!

I am so ready for the Holiday Season! We have always celebrated Thanksgiving with the Christmas tree up so this coming weekend will be the official start to the decorating process. Christmas tunes have already started ringing in our cars and in our home, now all I need is a couple of snow flakes and I'll be set! Well, I guess I could wait on the snow!

Back to photography........

Julie and Mike were such a sweet couple and had the most amazing friends and family surrounding them. Julie's family was all from Michigan (which was so fun 'cause that is where I am from too!) and Mike grew up in the Rochester area. So, for compromise purposes had the wedding here because they are moving back to Michigan after the wedding. It was a fun night that focused on family & friends and Dustin and I were so blessed to photograph you both! Thanks again and I wish you all the happiness in the world!

Very few couples I photograph have experience with the flip side of weddings, what goes on behind the scenes to make sure each event goes perfectly. These two are an exception. Michael is a talented videographer and by default Kim is in knee deep as well! Volleyball competitors turn lovers, there was nothin' but love with these two! Kim, you were so calm and so beautiful - thanks for letting me into your world. It was like a reunion with old friends, thank you for such a wonderful day! { Michael - you get a "10" for the back flip off the dock!}

In the year I've been in New York I've shot in countless different locations and have enjoyed discovering every one, this month I was lucky enough to visit two new {to my eyes} venues! The completely gorgeous John & Liz were married at the Colgate Divinity School, very castle-esque and oh so classic! It was so much fun to photograph you - I was so inspired by you two and this location created such a beautiful back drop to play with. I'm posting a little out of order, I photographed this beautiful couple the day before I left for Michigan. I was so excited to get back and dive into all the cool images I knew we had captured. This is such a beautiful location to photograph, not to mention a fun drive to get there! Becca & Michael were married at the fantastic Bristol Harbour , one of my favorite venues! I always challenge myself when I'm at a venue several times to find new spots to photograph. Nooks & crannies I haven't been before to give each couple really unique photographs. Yikes, where has the summer gone! I'm sure everyone feels that way - why it surprises me every year I don't know. I've enjoyed the last couple of weeks visiting with family in Michigan and catching up on some needed R&R. I had two weekends in a row with no weddings on the schedule so I decided to hit the road with the kiddos. I'm so glad we did! Of course I did manage to fit in one major assignment, my dear cousins wedding but even that was a fun reunion with the extended family as well. I love photographing my family - but weddings I find especially challenging. I get too emotional, plain and simple! I tear up at many of my client's weddings - so you can imagine what happens when its family! I've had the joy of photographing my cousin's family since she was in grade school. I've photographed all 3 siblings senior pictures and have literally watched them grow into the delightful personalities they are today. We all lived in the same city my senior year in high school which allowed us to spend lots of time together. My Uncle was even one of my teachers - and the one who called my name for my diploma! Wow! It sure has been rainy here, of course mostly on Saturdays - just to keep all of us on our toes of course. : ) But God surely blessed us, clearing the gray rainy skies for some bluer ones. I may be kidding myself a little - but IMHO I think I'm pretty good at reading people. This of course comes in handy when meeting couples and trying to get to know them fairly quickly sometimes before wedding day. Not often am I surprised, or in better words have my socks knocked off! Laurie, you knocked my socks off! Girl, you worked that veil like no other, and I loved it! Thanks to both of you for making Dustin & I feel very welcome and being such a joy to photograph! I wish you the best!

I sat in a cozy booth at Starbucks and listened as Kristen described her wedding that was to take place at Sonnenberg Garden in beautiful Canandaigua, and I knew. I knew we would be a perfect fit. Kristen had spectacular eyes and such a calm personality and Watt had that perfect dry sense of humor which I love so much. How fun it was going to be photographing them! Although it rained the ENTIRE day, it did not detract from the mood of the event. Kristen was completely relaxed and I love the way she was able to enjoy each moment. I can't even tell you how many times I heard her say to whatever problem arose, "its okay". Kristen & Watt, your wedding was amazing and I wish all the joy in the world to both of you. There were so many images I wanted to post so I thought I would do 2 parts....so here is part 1.

An amazing couple, an amazing venue and an amazing view! These two are such calm and warm people - complimenting each other perfectly. The girls relaxed in a beautiful suite at the Woodcliff before heading off to the church for a very personal ceremony given by Meg's own Uncle. After some quick photos of the family we headed back to the Woodcliff taking just a few minutes to photograph Meg & Izzi before the party started. A jazz band kept the room rockin all night! Congratulations to both of you!

Two weeks ago I had the wonderful privledge of helping my friend Michael shoot a wedding and wanted to share. I arrived early and started shooting some of the details and the oh so cute flower girls who also arrived early to "practice" - how precious! And then in walked Mindy. I had not met her before and went to introduce myself and she marched right up and embraced me in one of those really genuine hugs! I knew right then and there the day would be very special. Mindy & Greg you did not disappoint! This was one of those days I felt more like a guest than the photographer, so a million thanks to you both for you oh so sweet personalities and for welcoming me on your wedding day!

You just gotta know this had a funny story behind it...

We recently had some strange weather and I have to admit I was a little nervous how the day was going to turn out. Saturday morning came and with it beautiful vibrant blue skies, warm weather and a beautiful light breeze. Just perfect for a wedding! I love when brides get ready at their childhood home, it just adds such a background story to the day. Two pieces of a puzzle coming together to start a new adventure (that sort of thing)! So in the back yard of Allison's home we started photographing and then traveled downtown Pittsford to shoot some more along the Canal. Congratulations you two, it was so much fun photographing you!

Its been a bit since the last post, and I cannot say it was because I was too busy or had nothing to post about. Quite the contrary. My last living grandparent passed away a couple of weeks ago, and I've spent quite a bit remembering, reflecting, and loving my own family in honor of my Grandfather, Ivan Taylor. It was unexpected, and I have to admit it shocked me to the core when I received the call. It was a moment made more difficult because I am now over 400 miles away - and wasn't able to drive back in time to say goodbye. I'm left with many thoughts, one of which I would like to share. Please, please, please, if you are the one always taking the pictures (Mom's, this means you!) pass the camera off occasionally to whoever is standing near (yes they probably aren't going to center it perfectly) but at lease you'll have some pictures with you as well.

It really hit me, the reason I am so passionate about photographing people. Yes, it can be a glamorous, fun, and exciting profession. It is much more than that. I'm helping families, couples, and individuals remember. Moments, people, relationships, smiles, tears, new life, new love, growing families, and those being remembered, all with photographs. It seems such a simple thing to take a photograph, but it has such a profound impact. I have been privledged and honored to help tell so many stories. I have learned from you things I cannot put into words and I remember you. I remember all of you.

I hope everyone had a FABULOUS SPRING BREAK! My girls and I had so much fun exploring new locations and sleeping in! I empathize with them though, remember how awful Mondays seemed when you were a kid? Yikes! I know I'm totally partial, but I'm so in love with my girls....and they were kind enough to let me have 5 whole minutes to photograph them while they were off. {How cruel right, making them work on their vacation!} : ) Here are a my favorites.

I have one word that comes to mind: DOWNPOOR! My heart breaks when things don't turn out for my couples just like they planned, but in this particular case - nothing could dampen the day. NOTHING! Kevin & Rachel you were such troopers! Way to make lemons into lemonade! The only thing raining down harder, was all the love from the two of you and your families! Despite the weather, it was a fabulous event and you both look gorgeous! Thanks for inviting me and putting your faith in me!

Each year brings new faces and so many fabulous stories. When spring rolls around I can't help but get excited and curious who I'll meet this year. My calendar is already starting to fill up....I can't wait! {huge sigh}

I recall the day Candace walked into the studio (back in Michigan) she was just one of those brides that made an instant impression. She knew exactly who she was, what she wanted and was a completely no non-sense kind of girl. She would fit right in here in New York! : ) And did I mention a brilliant artist? Oh yeah, she was the "it" girl at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI. So yeah, no pressure on me! Please check out her blog here. She is so talented! On the day of the wedding, she was exactly how I imagined. Poised, calm and no-nonsense! Brilliant! The details were out of this world creative (she's an artist...what did you expect?), the weather was perfect, and the mood....whimsical and romantic. What can I say, the day was wonderful! Ken was the perfect match to Candace and I can't say enough about the way he knew exactly what she was going to do and was there right behind her to open the door. It really was stunning to watch. Thanks again for letting me take part in your day, it was such an honor!

I was so excited to put those little slideshows on the blog, because it seemed way cooler than always having to "scroll". But, then I realized you can't see them when you are using your iPhone! So, I will try to alternate - because they are still cool! However, if you are like me and find yourself getting restless at one of your kiddo's practices, web surfing is priceless!

On a different note, I would like to introduce someone near and dear to my heart. This is the beautiful, busy, intelligent little miracle...Emma. Emma is my very precious niece who joined our family last year and until now has not been overly thrilled with anyone other than Mommy (and Grandma) taking her picture! This little (teeny weeny) mini session lasted all of 3 minutes but I was still able to capture some fun images! I love you little E and can't wait until you make the trip to New York again!

Ahhh. The family is all snug in their beds.....and I am happily taking a moment to update my blog (taking breaks often to visit some of my favorites!). There are so many great artists out there in every avenue of self expression, I cannot put into words how lucky I am to do what I do!

Here is a recent album design that was just finished. I posted some of the images from their wedding a bit ago so you might recognize this beautiful couple. Matt & Laura were so sweet with each other and it definitely shows in each image!

In the spirit of looking ahead to all the wonderful possibilities of the new year, I wanted to take a quick journey back....and reflect on how I came to this point. I've decided to post mini slide shows of some of my favorite clients. I will of course update this blog like crazy because I have been so hard at work these last few months with new sessions and tidbits as well!

I had the privilege of photographing Matt & Laura's engagement session a couple of months before the wedding so I was able to get to know them a bit more than usual. We had an amazing day at the beach for that session (I'll post some of those soon!) - and the weather on the wedding day did not disappoint either! You both were amazing to work with and were up for anything! I congratulate you again & can't wait for you to get your beautiful album so you can relive it all again and again!
